TOPIC: PAY THE PRICE OF ANOINTING
1 John 2:27(NIV)27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit — just as it has taught you, remain in him.
The scripture teaches us anointing, which is the work of the Holy Spirit in us. All we will do depends on this anointing upon us and in us.
Isa 10:27(KJV)27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
Jesus paid the price of anointing:
From baptism where the Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove. – Matt 3:16-17(NIV)16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
To the wilderness where He was tempted and defeated the devil. – Matt 4:1-11(TLB) Then Jesus was led out into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit, to be tempted there by Satan. 2 For forty days and forty nights he ate nothing and became very hungry. 3 Then Satan tempted him to get food by changing stones into loaves of bread. “It will prove you are the Son of God,” he said. 4 But Jesus told him, “No! For the Scriptures tell us that bread won’t feed men’s souls: obedience to every word of God is what we need.” 5 Then Satan took him to Jerusalem to the roof of the Temple. 6 “Jump off,” he said, “and prove you are the Son of God; for the Scriptures declare, ‘God will send his angels to keep you from harm,’ . . . they will prevent you from smashing on the rocks below.” 7 Jesus retorted, “It also says not to put the Lord your God to a foolish test!” 8 Next Satan took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him the nations of the world and all their glory. 9 “I’ll give it all to you,” he said, “if you will only kneel and worship me.” 10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “The Scriptures say, ‘Worship only the Lord God. Obey only him.'” 11 Then Satan went away, and angels came and cared for Jesus.
Then He came to the synagogue where He declared that the Spirit of God was upon Him – Luke 4:18-19 (KJV)18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
You cannot love to work miracles with anointing without paying the price.
Ps 45:7(KJV)7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
The anointing go in pari passu with holiness – you need to pay the price
Dying to self is paramount.
If you are prepared to go deeper in this anointing for miracles, there are certain things; carnal pleasures you should jettison.
A song writer sang “when I survey the wondrous cross”
The price of anointing is total death to self and it comes through faith and prayer.
It depends on how far you want to go and to be used by God.
It will cost you everything.
The supernatural anointing comes with a price
Matt 16:24-25(KJV)24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Matt 8:21-22(KJV)21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
John 12:24-26(KJV)24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
This is absolute – the cost of anointing is standing with God even if you are standing alone
There is a great cost to activate anointing God places on one’s life.
The cost for Abraham was to leave his home to a place that will be revealed to him later Gen 12:1
Sacrifice Isaac your son – Gen 22:7-12(NIV)7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?””Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.”The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” 8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. 9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!””Here I am,” he replied. 12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
Moses had to give up a lavish lifestyle in Egypt and became one that was slow to speak to being one who will be the voice of the Lord.
Ex 3:7-10 (NLT)7 Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live. 9 Look! The cry of the people of Israel has reached me, and I have seen how harshly the Egyptians abuse them. 10 Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.”
The anointing came upon him, his face shun.
Ex 34:29-30 (NKJV)29 Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him. 30 So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.
Paul gave up his pride, positions and power as a devout Jew and was not satisfied with knowing Christ.
Phil 3:10(KJV)10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Phil 1:21(KJV)21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Gal 6:17(MSG)17 Quite frankly, I don’t want to be bothered anymore by these disputes. I have far more important things to do — the serious living of this faith. I bear in my body scars from my service to Jesus.
Today many of us refused to pay the cost of the anointing.
Unlike Noah, we will rather listen to the voices around us instead of voice within us – Gen 7:5(NLT)5 So Noah did everything as the Lord commanded him.
Unlike the disciples e.g Peter, we put our work and families above our relationship with God – Matt 19:27(NKJV)27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”
V29-30 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.
Acts 4:13(KJV)13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Esther was willing to pay the price of anointing. Est 4:16 “…if I perish, I perish.”
Joseph paid the price – Gen 37:28(NLT) 28 So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt.
Gen 39:19-21(NLT)19 Potiphar was furious when he heard his wife’s story about how Joseph had treated her. 20 So he took Joseph and threw him into the prison where the king’s prisoners were held, and there he remained.
Gen 41:37-44(NLT)37 Joseph’s suggestions were well received by Pharaoh and his officials. 38 So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. 40 You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.”41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt.” 42 Then Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and placed it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in fine linen clothing and hung a gold chain around his neck. 43 Then he had Joseph ride in the chariot reserved for his second-in-command. And wherever Joseph went, the command was shouted, “Kneel down!” So Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of all Egypt. 44 And Pharaoh said to him, “I am Pharaoh, but no one will lift a hand or foot in the entire land of Egypt without your approval.”
Ruth was willing to pay the price, but Orpah was not – Ruth 1:14 (KJV)14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
How can you be Gehazi and Achan and possess anointing for miracles.
Everybody knows what he has come to grab in the corridor of the supernatural power.
For Gehazi he came to collect his portion – 2 Kings 5:21-25(NLT) 21 So Gehazi set off after Naaman.0When Naaman saw Gehazi running after him, he climbed down from his chariot and went to meet him. “Is everything all right?” Naaman asked.22 “Yes,” Gehazi said, “but my master has sent me to tell you that two young prophets from the hill country of Ephraim have just arrived. He would like 75 pounds of silver and two sets of clothing to give to them.”23 “By all means, take twice as much silver,” Naaman insisted. He gave him two sets of clothing, tied up the money in two bags, and sent two of his servants to carry the gifts for Gehazi. 24 But when they arrived at the citadel, Gehazi took the gifts from the servants and sent the men back. Then he went and hid the gifts inside the house.25 When he went in to his master, Elisha asked him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?””I haven’t been anywhere,” he replied.
For Achan – Josh 7:20-21(NLT)20 Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. 21 Among the plunder I saw a beautiful robe from Babylon, 200 silver coins, and a bar of gold weighing more than a pound. I wanted them so much that I took them. They are hidden in the ground beneath my tent, with the silver buried deeper than the rest.”
For Judas – John 12:6(NLT) 6 Not that he cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself.
