THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:SUNDAY OUTLINE  (BRO. EMMA OKORIE)  14TH MAY, 2023

TOPIC: THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The origin of the power of the Holy Spirit is demonstrated in creation.

Gen 1:1-2(TLB)When God began creating the heavens and the earth, 2 the earth was a shapeless, chaotic mass, with the Spirit of God brooding over the dark vapors.

Somebody must activate the Holy Spirit. V3 Then God said, “Let there be light.” And light appeared.

The Holy Spirit is the author of life and death

Ps 104:29-30(NLT)29 But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. 30 When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth.

Luke 1:35(TLB)35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of God shall overshadow you; so the baby born to you will be utterly holy-the Son of God.

The power of miracle lies on the Holy Spirit.

The move of the  Spirit.

Ezek 37:1-10(NKJV)The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. 2 Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. 3 And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.” 4 Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. 6 I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”‘” 7 So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them. 9 Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God:”Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”‘” 10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.

The gospel emanates from the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus brought it forth from the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 24:49(NLT)49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

Acts 1:8(NLT)8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Jesus cannot give us the power He has not experienced.

Matt 3:16-17(TLB)16 After his baptism, as soon as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God coming down in the form of a dove. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, and I am wonderfully pleased with him.”

Luke 4:14-15(NLT)14 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region. 15 He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.

Jesus said, the power of the Holy Spirit is a sign that the kingdom of God has come down unto men.

Luke 11:20(KJV)20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

The power of the Holy Spirit is a power of resurrection – a quickening power.

Rom 8:11(KJV)11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

A “quickening Spirit” and a “Life-giving Spirit”. In other words, left to ourselves, without the help of the Holy Spirit, all of our strength, effort and intellect can produce nothing but death and defeat. We are dead without the presence and power of the Holy Spirit working in our lives.

John 6:63 (KJV)63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

The Holy spirit does the impossible things – Just there for doing the impossible .

Rom 15:19(KJV)19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

The only way to be free from demonic oppression and bondage is through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Mark 9:14-26 (NLT)14 When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd surrounding them, and some teachers of religious law were arguing with them. 15 When the crowd saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with awe, and they ran to greet him.16 “What is all this arguing about?” Jesus asked.17 One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. 18 And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.”19 Jesus said to them, “You faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” 20 So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.21 “How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, “Since he was a little boy. 22 The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” 24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”25 When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. “Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” he said. “I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!” 26 Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.

If you want to do great things, wear the Holy Ghost

1 Cor 2:4(KJV)4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power”

Acts 19:11-12(NLT)11 God gave Paul the power to perform unusual miracles. 12 When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled.

1 Thess 1:5(KJV)5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Zech 4:6-7 (KJV) “6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain …”

Talking about the power of the Holy Spirit,  the gifts of the spirit from A to Z are the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Word of Knowledge is a Supernatural Revelation by the Spirit of God concerning facts in the mind of God, concerning people, places or things – The Word of Knowledge gives a revelation of things in the present or past.

The Word of Wisdom is a Supernatural Revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose in the mind and will of God.  The Word of Wisdom gives us a revelation of the mind and purpose of God.

Discerning of Spirits is a Supernatural Gift of the Spirit that gives insight into the spirit world.

The Gift of Faith is a Supernatural Gift given to the believer so that he might receive miracles.

That means without  the gift of the Holy Spirit, there is no working of miracles.

While the Working of Miracles is a  supernatural gift of the Spirit given to the believer so that he might work miracles.

The Gift of Special Faith.  The supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit which is imparted after the baptism of Holy Spirit as the Spirit wills

The Special Faith is a Supernatural endowment by the Spirit thereby that which is uttered or desired by man or spoken by God shall eventually come to pass.

The Gifts of Healings are giving by God for the supernatural healing of the disease without natural means from any source. Etc

Five-fold Ministry gifts are the gifts of the Holy Spirit. – Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers. These are the embodiments of the power of the Holy Spirit.

Eph 4:11(KJV)11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers”

You can’t exclude them from the Holy Spirit power.

Peter explains how the Holy Spirit gives miracle gifts.

The power of the Holy Spirit has been made available to every believer  – Acts 2:17-19(TLB)17 ‘In the last days,’ God said, ‘I will pour out my Holy Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men dream dreams. 18 Yes, the Holy Spirit shall come upon all my servants, men and women alike, and they shall prophesy.

V38-39 –  And Peter replied, “Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive this gift, the Holy Spirit. 39 For Christ promised him to each one of you who has been called by the Lord our God, and to your children and even to those in distant lands!”

The Holy Spirit power is demonstrated with physical signs when it is at work  – Acts 4:31(TLB)31 After this prayer, the building where they were meeting shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and boldly preached God’s message.

The Holy Spirit rides on the platform of the word of God. Acts 10:44-48(NLT)44 Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message. 45 The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.

The Spirit of God has to come upon you and fill you.

Luke 4:18-19(NLT)18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.”

Acts 19:5-7(NLT)5 As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all.

Do not get drunk with alcohol and drugs, get drunk with power of the Holy Spirit

Eph 5:18-19(KJV)18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Holy Spirit works with obedience.

Mark 16:15-20(KJV)15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;18 .They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

The power of the fruit of the Spirit is responsible for changing lives.

Gal 5:22-25(NLT)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
