TOPIC: PROFANE AND VAIN BABBLINGS, HINDRANCE TO POWER
We have been speaking on how to perform supernatural miracles.
Everyone aspires to separate and sanctify himself to be used of God.
The first place to start achieving this is through total consecration and dedication of our mind and mouth to God.
2 Tim 2:16-19(NLT)16 Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. 17 This kind of talk spreads like cancer, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 They have left the path of truth, claiming that the resurrection of the dead has already occurred; in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith 19 But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”
2 Tim 2:16-19(KJV)16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
In the process of irrelevances, we are leaking power.
Men and women of God were known for their discreet and holy behavior. They don’t give their mouth to unholy discussions.
Eph 4:29-32(AMP)29 Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God’s own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin). 31 Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind). 32 And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.
God created heaven and earth by the words of his mouth, and therefore, for God to honour your words and perform miracles through them, you must sanctify your heart and mouth to speak wholesome words.
James 3:7-12(NLT)7 People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, 8 but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. 10 And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! 11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? 12 Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.
Every place you read that miracle happened came by the power of the word of God oozing from the mouth.
A profane mouth cannot command mounting to move from one place to another.
Mark 11:23(KJV)23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
A lot of Young Street tough this day only gather to talk and boast of their unrealistic ventures, but when you look in, they are void and empty.
The issue of profane and vain babblings is a deep concern to God.
Ex 20:7(KJV)7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
You cannot be a man of supernatural power and don’t live differently from the way of this world.
The modern religion can speak the gospel with the latest vocabulary and encyclopedia; for sure there will be no single miracle that follows them because of this mixture.
Eph 5:3-12(KJV)3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
Are you willing to be used of God? Then make a sharp knife and circumcise your heart and your mouth, dedicate yourself to God; through prayer and fasting, you can’t beat that.
Phil 4:8(KJV)8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Timothy was a young man like most of you. It is not every young man that is arrogant, pompous and untamed
.
So many have grown in their generation standing out as men God can be proud of.
1 Tim 6:20-21(KJV)20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.
The problem of profane and vain babblings was so much in the days of John the Baptist that he called his generation ‘brood of vipers ‘ – Matt 12:34 (KJV)O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
It is easy to form association of motorize mouth, but proverb says Prov 12:18(AMP)18 There are those who speak rashly, like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
How do you identify the wise from the foolish? Prov 31:26(MSG)26 When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly..
I know so many men and women their spouses fidget when they try to speak in the public, because they may talk like the husband of Abigail – 1 Sam 25:10-11(NLT)10 “Who is this fellow David?” Nabal sneered to the young men. “Who does this son of Jesse think he is? There are lots of servants these days who run away from their masters. 11 Should I take my bread and my water and my meat that I’ve slaughtered for my shearers and give it to a band of outlaws who come from who knows where?”
Some people don’t think before they speak.
Prov 4:23-24(MSG)23 Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. 24 Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip.
I know a lot of you do not think that you are in error, because you think you are making factual statement. The Bible is emphatically against profane and vain babblings.
A description of Quality men and women in a quality church. Acts 17:10-11(KJV)10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
A man control by the spirit of God speaks as an oracle of God. 1 Cor 2:4-7 (KJV)4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory”
Profane and vain babbler cannot speak like this. He is far from spiritual words.
Be conscious of what you speak. It contains God. John 6:63(kJV)63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
We need to hear the words of eternal life only – John 6:68 (KJV)Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
