TOPIC: REMOVE DOUBLE-MINDEDNESS

James 1:5-8(KJV)5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.8 A DOUBLE MINDED MAN IS UNSTABLE IN ALL HIS WAYS.

James 1:5-8(NLT)5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

Why do we quote scriptures as the bases of our prayers?  I have watched many preachers probing the scriptures to find revelations.   It seems that being a good preacher  involves uncovering new revelations, yet our sickness, sins and problems remain untouched.

Faith rides on the word. Faith rides on revelation

If faith is not applied to the word  you hear and the revelations you receive, everything becomes an ordinary letter that kills.

Today we are addressing the subject of removing double-mindedness.

A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.

The reason is simple: he is neither here nor there.

It takes maturity and faith to overcome this.

Gen 18:9-14(KJV) And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?13 And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

The best way to strengthen your faith is to judge God faithful.

Heb 11:11(KJV)11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Rom 4:20-24(KJV)20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Elijah described the prophets of Baal, who believed in Yahweh yet also followed  foreign gods, as limping between two opinions.

1 Kings 18:21(KJV)21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

God works with a person who has made up his mind.  Many Christian’s inability to receive from God stems from double-mindedness.

They find it difficult to make up their minds and stand firm on the truth they have received.

As a result, they are easily deceived and remain unfaithful.

Ps 12:1(NLT) Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!

Prov 25:19(KJV)19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

Ps 146:3-6(MSG)3 Don’t put your life in the hands of experts who know nothing of life, of salvation life. 4 Mere humans don’t have what it takes; when they die, their projects die with them.  5 Instead, get help from the God of Jacob, put your hope in God and know real blessing! 6 God made sky and soil.

The Lord’s promises and faithfulness are everlasting – Ps 119:89-90(KJV) For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

Num 23:19(KJV)19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Col 3:16(KJV)16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…”

A double- minded person is still a child in faith – 1 Cor 13:11(KJV)11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

A double-minded man walks by sight and not by faith.

Gen 13:8-18(KJV)8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.14 And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.

It is a spirit operation.

Gal 5:16(KJV)16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

2 Kings 7:1-2(KJV)Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

This double-mindedness affects your decision-making  –  whether it’s choosing a spouse, taking a job, or answering your call to ministry.

You could have grown beyond your level, but the disease of double-mindedness holds you back.

Sometimes, you may  make people think you are wise by relying solely on your intellect. But true wisdom comes from a firm and unwavering faith.
